Accurate Description of Item
One Walnut/Butternut Early Victorian Stepback Cabinet
Appraiser Remarks
Cabinets like this generally date from the second quarter of the 19th Century, but were made in rural areas into the 1870's. Most were combinations of local hardwoods, such as maple, birch, walnut or butternut and softwoods like pine for drawer sides bottoms and runners. Values for cabinets like this peaked during the last Victorian antiques craze that ended in the 1990's, values and demand since then has declined a great deal. We'd currently retail one like this for about $800.00, but they often now go at auction for less than $250.00.
Estimated Value
$600.00- $800.00
