Your piece is very nice. I believe it is stoneware and not resine or laqured wood. This piece is a very common style that has been reproduced. Although not to good as a tray due to the high relief this would be better used as Plaque / Picture. You can get nice Asian wood stands to display these,Ā
I would estimate this piece was made between 1960 - 1970. The hole in the bottom would inticate its not resin nor laquered wood but a type of stoneware. As you can see stoneware is not one of the more common materials used in this style of work.
Origin: I believe China. In the 1980's many shops in Canada sold large quantities of china and wood carvings and stonewares.Ā Ā
I would value this piece $80 - $125 US pending on market and demand.
Thanks kindly for sharing ...Ā

Re: vintage oriental stoneware cinnabar style plaque / tray.
Thank you for the info and the fast reply!
The bottom of the tray doesn't have a hole in it. I'm afraid that is a shadow created by my wonderful photography skills (or lack there of). It doesn't seem like wood, so you are probably right about it being some sort of stoneware.
I found it atĀ a thrift store for $4; however, it had an orange sticker on it, so it was half off that day. I didn't think it was worth much of anything, but did like the scene and intricacy.
Thanks again for your time. If I can figure out how this site works, I'll happily give you positive feedback.
Take Care,
Loy
