Re: table and four chairs
This is a "Duncan Phyfe" style set, Phyfe being a Scottish American cabinetmaker who worked during the late 18th century producing furniture in the Federal and Empire styles. Sets like this one tend to date from the second quarter of the 20th century and were made in huge numbers, so values tend to be modest for them. At auction a comparable table and chairs set often now sell for under $200.00.
Re: table and four chairs
I don't see a date for when this posted. That would really help me understand the "under $200" reply.
I can tell you that now these are going for $800-$1200 on Etsy and Mid-Century Modern furniture sites.Yes, there are quite a few being sold, but if your chair fabric is original and all is in excellent condition, that definitely ups the price and/or saleability. Of course, as time goes on, there are less and less of any particular item. A person buys this set now, gives it to their kids who don't take care of it...there's one less. Or they pass and it goes to an estate sale that doesn't take care of it, and so on. That happens more than you'd think. Especially younger people who inherit good furniture, but have no idea of the value or importance of care.
I have a rare Craddock Dining set that a "professional" estate sales company sold and because of the way they handled and showed it, I got it for a song. I had to clean it up and do some very minor repairs, as well as recover the seats, but it is now worth around $2000. Because it was advertised as a "wood table and chairs, as is," I'd imagine it very well might have been bought by someone who used it in a way that only worsened it.
So, in another 10-20 years, if your table is kept in excellent condition, the value should go up substantially.
