I just could not pass up this ornate teapot. The handle to the grape-leaf topper on the lid is broken and lost. The silver is oxidized. Otherwise in very good condition - no digs, dents, or structural marks. It has an inscribed name of Sarah on one side. I am trying to understand it's history better because of the odd markings. It appears the original makers mark was partially scratched out (Reed & Burton) then over-stamped with another (Redfield & Rice). Why would this be done? Also curious as I was searching for info on the net I ran across a genealogy of a Redfield line that included many Sarahs. Any leads or help on this would be greatly appreciated. I am not planning on keeping this item and will likely be listing it for sale at some point. FYI eBay currently has a very nice looking 1780 teapot (without the extra marks) available.

we have this whole set! it includes several peices, the tops of them have like a big honey suckle flower on them! WHICH YOU ARE MISSING, we just took themout of storage after 50 years . we cant find the name " SARAH " on it? but all other marks are axactly like yours! and they are in "GREAT SHAPE" hang on to that peice! its quite " PRICEY " good luck with your search! ours are for sale $$ "TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER"..
