This is an antique glass handblown snuff bottle with a jade stopper, cork and spoon. Â It has a round neck, rounded shoulders and raised feet. Â It stands four inches tall, it is four inches across, and is one and a half inches in depth. Â It is signed. Â I have determined that it is hand blown because there are no seams, there are bubbles present throughout, and the shape of the bottle , the top lip and bottom feet are all uneven. Â
There are several cracks on the left side ( second photo ). Â The cracks seem to be internal, because the surface is smooth everywhere. Â There are no chips, you cannot feel the cracks. Â I do not know if glass cracks like this because of age ? Â It would seem that if it was dropped, the edges would be chipped ?, Â which they are not. Â The spoon looks and feels to be made out of bone, it is no longer attached to the cork. Â There is still some snuff in the bottom of the bottle and on the spoon. Â Â
This is everything I have been able to find out about this piece. Â I have done research, but the above info is all I have been able to put together. Â
I hope to have help dating this piece? I also would like to know more about the cracks, can this happen to older glass? Â Is it possible to come up with a value, or is a piece with cracks not considered to have any value?
I do not know any more about it, because I found this in a thrift shop, and thought it was really a lovely bottle.
Thank you for your help! Â Your comments are truly appreciated.
