I came across a pair of old boots with boot stretchers still in them at an estate sale. I cannot find any good information on these or the maker. The stamp inside the boot Has a crest above Alan McAfee Military & Hunting Bootmaker. Under that is a scroll line and then the address of 68 Duke Street, Grosvenor Square, London W. On that note the stretchers are a four piece notched together set. No pivots or connectors. Appear to be carved out of a log. Hollow chambers in the legs and one under the toe. Any Help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!
Re: Where would I find information on very old Alan McAfee ...
What you would have to do is check old London business registry records, they are available online. From there you can find how long the business was in operation and if it moved during the business's life time . The laction can provide a rough idea as to when the shoe was made. Alan McAffee had several shops in London selling ready-to-wear shoes as well as their head quarters and bespoke house in Dover Street. They went under in the mid-80s..
