Accurate Description of Item
One Late 19th Century Ceramic Bust of a Boy, mounted on a marble pedestal.
Appraiser Remarks
The marking on the base is not a date, it's a mold or model number. The vast majority of these busts date from the last Quarter of the 19th Century (1875-1900). Most of them are reproductions, based on the work of 17th and 18th Century Artists, very few are signed in a way to identify the original Artist unless they were cast in bronze. Some of the ceramic examples had a brass title plate mounted on them that would have the original Artists name and the subject of the piece mounted on the pedestal. this one resembles those designed after originals by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828), Values for comparable unsigned examples now sell in the $150.00- $200.00 range.
Estimated Value
$150.00- $200.00
