I also want to add that I've spent countless days and hours on the internet and in antique stores searching for another desk like this or something thats at least close, and I haven't found a single one does that mean its rare?
History
after some research based on the stamps I was able to determine that at some point during the 1800s the desk was located at The First National Bank in Bangor Maine.

Based on the construction
Based on the construction detains and the type of legs, this is a mid Victorian piece, but in my humble opinion you paid far, far more than what it's worth. I 'd have trouble getting $1500.00 for this piece in the current market.
