Back in the early 1940's through the late 1950's these were sold in the local drugs stores and what was commonly called "The 5 and dime" which were like the dollar stores of today only you could buy things for 5 to 10 cents and up. This This little one is called a dress me doll. Purchased without clothing, taken home and the new owner would sew the clothes for it. Looking at the fabric it's possible this was purchased in the late 1940's. Other dolls of this kind were sold in boxes pre-dressed in different holiday themes for gifting. As tourism picked up one could buy them pre-dressed in different costumes in gift shops along the traveled roads.
