Barbor Silver and Silver Plate in General
By International conventions all items made of precious metals such as silver in Europe and
North America carry marking to indicate their level of purity, such as the word "Sterling",
numbers such as " 925" ( 925/1000 parts pure), "800" ( 800/1000 parts pure) or stamped
markings referred to as " Hall Marks" that indicate the date made, the maker, city of origin
and metal content. The lack of any such markings indicates this set is most likely silver plated.

Barbour Silver Co Repousse Creamer
I have submitted at photo & requested an appraisal for a Barbour Silverplate Repousse creamer, to no avail, as yet. I have no idea of the value, you said you have a Barbour Tea set with the creamer, what type of pattern does it have? I have found several Barbour pieces with Dutch design, mine is not.
I know from what I have read Barbour Silver Co was founded in Meridan Connetticut in 1892 & was the first company absorbed by International Silver. It was then "factory A" but continued to use the Barbour Silver hallmark until 1931.
I have been ubable to find any descriptions of the patterns Barbour Silver Co used prior to ISC merge.
The piece I have is beautiful. I would like to find more pieces like it, but, I fear it will be a life long quest. & Short of traveling to Cn. I may never get any further info.
Re: Barbour Silver Co/International Silver Co
Barbour Silver Co. 1882 became a division of
international Silver in 1898 of Hartford,
Ct. The Coffee/Tea Set that I have also bears
a marking that was used by Webster &
Sons 1865 of Brooklyn, NY. The pattern that
I have is of embossed leaves and berries or g
grapes. Have not been able to find out what
the RSCEP stands for? Any info would be
appreciated. Thanks
RE: Barbour Silver mark
The RSCEP mark is actually: BSCEP, which stands for Barbour Silver Company Extra/Electroplate. I believe it is silver plate over nickel silver. I have a very large Barbour tray that also contains several other marks as well...3 stars in boxes...numbers 5216/18...3 hallmarks, including 1 that is an arm, holding a sledge hammer, rising out of a basket. The other 2 marks are indescribable. Any help would be appreciated.

You should have no problem with the pictures as the system should be able to auto-scale them to fit properly. My suggestion is to use the "Photos" upload link.

International Silver
Hello .. if items are marked Internation Silver are they silver or silver plate??
International Silver
That's just the name of the company. American Sterling silver is generally marked " Sterling" or bears the numerical "925" which stands for 925/1000ths pure silver, ( which is Sterling), the word "Coin" or the numerical "800" which stands for 800/1000ths pure silver. If none of those markings are present it is most likely silverplated .

Re: International Silver
I obtained several silver plated or silver items from a great Aunt one has a sticker on it that reads, " International Silver Company", and this sticker is over some engraving underneath. I haven't removed the sticker to read what is under it. I'm afraid it will lessen it's value. This is not a big plater more so a small relish(?) tray. Just wanting to know what or how I should go about finding out more info. on the items she's left me. Not so much for money, but the history behind them. I also have a butter dish, like a claim shell, with a glass linning in it from England. There are letter on it, " F & JL" at least that is what it looks like to me. The knife has, "E&J. Leeks" thats what I think I see anyhow.
Can you help? Any advise would be helpful. Thanks Jenn.
I need help with a piece
I have a food or pie or cake stand, Don't know which it is. It has three feet which have a decorative work on each foot. It stand 1" from botton of feet to top of stand. It is 9.5 inches from across the top of the stand. It says for the mark on the back of the piece CARLTON SILVERPLATE. It has etched on the top a pattern of which I do not know..It has a place in the middle with no etching except for a single small tiny star or flower. I would like to know of the pattern of this piece and what it would be worth. Please help.
I have a Wm A Rogers piece I need help with
I have received 2 metal plates or serving plates could be decorative for all I know. Each has a mark of Wm A Rogers on the back inlaid into a small scroll frame around it. Each has a decorative etching on the front in the middle. Each has scalloped edges in some pattern of which I do not know. The color of the pieces seems to be gold or bronze.. I don't know if that is what the metal is underneath or if it is a silver piece underneath? The edges further in has cutout shapes all along the edge of the pieces. I would like to know the pattern of these 2 pieces and the worth of each one if anyone knows where this can be done? Please Help!!
Re: Barbour Silver Co/International Silver Co
How can I see the picture? Is that suitable for my home furniture?
Re: Barbour Silver Co/International Silver Co
I have a footed tray, BSCEP, Balbour Silver Company, Electro Plate with the Balbour three trade markings, also * + *, numbers 05 600/12 1/2 and scratched on it below trade markings is 24 D ?? (can read two end #'s). The tray looks to be copper with silver over it...the copper(?) shows through the underneath as well through the worn silver plate. The engraving in center on the copper that shows is flowers and leaves. The edge all around the tray is 3D of grapes and leaves. In all my search...I can't find a piece like it.
ANY IDEA'S on what this is??? Any info would be appreciated...

Re: Barbour Silver Co/International Silver Co
My father spent over 43 years at International Silver. At 86, he might know about markings and individual pieces. He was a buffer.
He also has many many pieces from gold plate to flatware.
