THis is a stoneware jug, dark brown on top with a beige bottom in good condition. It has a crown on the side with a "1" in it and "GAL", obviously indicating 1 gallon. It has a small handle on the top and is corked. I have two of these, the other has a couple of, what appear to be tar spots that could be easily removed, but otherwise identical.

Many of these sell online and depending on the size 1 gal, 5 gal or larger they sell for 10.00-150.00. Guess it depends who wants it at the time. Check out Ebay to give you an idea.
