Nantucket Basket
This is my second basket....this one doesn't have any real identifications that I can see so I'm not certain it's "real" other tahn the two ivory, faux ivory seashells on the top cover. Â
I've searched a little bit and can not find another one identical to this one as I did my other basket. Â Would love some feedback.Â

Thank you!Â

Re: Nantucket Basket
Your clues as to whether real or fake (not to say some seriously good reproductions can't be enjoyed) lie with the cane itself rather than any identification label or tag. Are there patches of black mould in the cane? Has the cane been bevelled and tapered to fit into the base groove? Has the rim been secured with tiny brass pins so it doesn't unravel in time or is it lashed? Are there gaps in the cane? Do the staves stand strongly and equidistant from each other or are there variations? Variations in cane colour by the way are not an indication of fake, that is a natural thing for cane. Look carefully at the craftsmanship to see if the basket's really strong enough for the purpose. You don't need a rim that's too thin, for example. It's all there. Examine closely.Â
