Appraiser Remarks
Karol (Karl) D. Witkowski (16 August 1860 – 17 May 1910) was a Polish-American portraitist and genre painter. Witkowski painted the elite in Newark (New Jersey, USA) and his skills as a portraitist to the wealthy were always in demand. But ironically it was his paintings of newsboys and street urchins in the same city that brought him lasting recognition. His paintings of children are remarkable for their odd combination of sentimentalism and realism.
This one is a modern edition of Witowski prints originally printed 1900-10. Prints like this one were mass produced items, which tend to have modest values in the secondary market.
