Accurate Description of Item
One Mid 19th Century Trolley Spinning Wheel, constructed of maple and oak
Appraiser Remarks
Patents for Trolley type spinning wheels date back to 1838, invented by Hiram Wheeler of SpringvilleTownship, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Values for spinning wheels have gone up and down with decorating trends, peaking in the 1920's, 1950's and again in the 1970's-80's During these periodsit would be odd to find an Antique store without a couple of them in stock, or for that matter any collector of Americana or Canadiana not to have one as well displayed in the living room. Today though demand for them as decorative items is very soft, the main demand coming from Hobbyist weavers and people involved in Historical reenactment events. In terms of value today, what you paid would be about the top end of the market for spinning wheels, most now sell for less than $450.00.
Estimated Value
$400.00
