Long Description
A lovely jewelry casket, Art Nouveau period. I believe it is brass or gold tone. The only Hallmark on the bottom says "Made in France". The box has original fabric cushions inside, a light blue color with 8 buttons on the top cushion and 8 on the bottom. There is some staining, no tears. The box is oval almost egg shaped with painted red flowers and green leaves adorning the front and back. A small box approximately 4 1/2 inches x 3 1/2 tall and 3 inches deep. On the top is a spectacular reclining Satyr ( or God Pan) in green leaves lazily playing his panpipes. There is one painted red flower on the top next to his elbow.

Re: Art Nouveau Jewelry Casket with Satyr and Repousse
The "Made in France" marking was not generally used until the 1920's, well after when Art Nouveau was in style. I doubt this piece predates the mid 1920's. Art Nouveau as a style peaked in 1900, by World War One (1914) it was well out of style.
Re: Art Nouveau Jewelry Casket with Satyr and Repousse
A lovely jewelry box. I would agree with lovejoy, this appears to be an in the style of piece which made slightly after the art nouveau craze, most likely 1920s or 30s. I would have no problem putting a retail pricetag of $80-120 on the piece. Online or at auction realistically about half to two thirds of those numbers could be expected I suppose. Thanks for sharing, nice find.
