Info on Hawkeye by Burlington Basket Company

Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 04/05/2008 - 03:59.

I just bought a "hawkeye" at the local antique store. The owner gave it to me because I had bought a large ticket item that day. The hawkeye had $7.00 on it (I have seen them for as much as $25), but was not in as good condition as yours. some of the green plastic had nicks, etc. I believe that what it is, is a knitting "basket" that ladies would keep next to their favorite chair, and in the evenings, while the husbands watched tv or whatever, the wife would knit or crochet. the "basket" kept everything (yarn, needles, patterns, etc) looking neat and tidy when not being used.
If you sit the hawkeye next to a chair, you'll see it's the perfect heigth for that sort of thing. I've reupholstered mine and am using it for my quilting and embroidery.
Hope this helps, I really didn't have much information. Smiling
