Chairs like this are late Victorian examples, generally they were stuffed with horsehair and felt/cotton using webbing and springs for support. The upholstery was often velvet or a type of artificial black leather like material. Chairs like this one were mass produced items and in the current market have very little value, demand for them peaked over 20 years ago during the fad for Victorian decorating. Even if reupholstered and restored chairs like this retail for less than $175.00, in "the Rough" at auction they often sell for less than $25.00
