gift from a friend, used to be in a set of 2
Long Description and Pictures (jpg, gif, png):
This is a very unique Chinese candle holder. It is approximately 6 feet tall and almost 15 inches in diameter. The candle holder appears to be an intricate wooden carving with gold leafing, and tells a tale or story of sorts as you transcend upwards to the top of the figure.
I was told that it used to be one in a pair of candle holders, but I only have this one. It was a gift from a friend.

the piece is signed, but it's impossible to take a picture of it. i've copied the signature on paper (pictured below)
Date Period (Estimated date of item if known):
Size and dimensions of this item:
about the height of a bottle of wine
History:
i inherited this item from my grandparent's estate. my grandfather was in WWII, stationed in southeast asia. both my grandparents travelled extensively ALL around the world, i have no idea if they actually picked this up in japan or china or if it's just something from chinatown here in san francisco.
Long Description and Pictures (jpg, gif, png):
this is an ivory carving of what appears (to me) to be a samurai, on a teak stand painted black. it is signed in a carved marking at the base, but it's incredibly difficult to take a picture of that signature with my iphone, so i've traced the signature or word at the bottom below.
the ivory is in great shape, and it's solid ivory all the way through. the quality of the carving is incredibly smooth, detailed, and fluid. i'm not sure if the signature/marking gives it any value, but i'm quite sure the sheer quantity of ivory is atleast somewhat valuable.
my grandparents were EXTREMELY wealthy, but also children of the depression.
so they while they travelled the entire globe, they were also known to buy/hoard incredibly expensive and valuable items, and also tons of.. well, crap.
i'm desperately trying to pay for graduate school, and hoping to find extra income where i can.
and inherited antiques like this one, sadly, have to go, if they'll help me to afford a MA program.

The lady that owned them was very wealthy and traveled alot and visited lots of different countries. Would like to learn some info on both items and hoping to sell them as well. Have a bunch of other cool items as well I picked up from the sale.
