I don't know much about this. My Step-Dad gave it to me 16 years ago, and he had it for about 50 years. His Mother gave it to him, and all he knew was she had it many, many years. He remembers it as a child. He never asked where it came from. I saw a twin like it for sale on ebay about three years ago, and I contacted her. She was from the UK, and I tried to contact her again, but she is no longer on ebay. She had a little info on it and I printed it, and I just don't know what I did with that picture and info. She was interested in mine, because she did say they were usually made as pairs. I did send her pictures of mine, but told her it's not for sale. I made a promice to my step-dad i would never sell it. (he gave it to me after I promised). He would have been 89 yrs/ old this yr.
Thank You, Connie
Re: Wood Carved Chinese Lion Dog
This is Wood, NOT POTTERY!!!!! It was Entered as Other for catagory!!
Re: Wood Carved Chinese Lion Dog
I'm pretty sure this is a 19th century carving (cant tell you the type of wood though)
the figure is a foodog with two youg foo dogs (havent seen one of those before) , only a larger foodogs but no with the cubs.
You can clean it with mineral oil, if you would like to clean it.
The teeth might be from either ivory or bone.
Really nice piece. Take good care of it (dont place it in direct sunlight or in a very dry spot, the drought will bleach to wood and make it crack)

Thank you very much! You wouldn't possibly have any idea of the value? I would like to insure it if it has any.

Re: Wood Carved Chinese Lion Dog
depepending on the size it could go up as high as 1500 dollar. Its a sellers market with al the Chinese buying their heritage back
Re: Wood Carved Chinese Lion Dog
How much do you want for it?
Re: Wood Carved Chinese Lion Dog
I'm sorry I promised my step dad I would never sell it! He gave it to me about 6 months before he passed away. I just want to insure it. Thanks for all of your help. I can't wait to clean it finally. I am glad you told me about the mineral oil. Connie
