As stated in the title, I have what I believe to be a19th Century, Mandalay, Bhumisparsha Mudra, Sitting, Buddha Statue, however, I am unsure as to it's authenticity/origin/value.
The statue was purchased in bulk with many other items and I am therefore unsure of it's origin.
It is constructed of wood, painted, and jeweled, with gold powder type finish which rubs off when brushed (as you can see in the image several areas have been rubbed to the point where the wood is plainly visible underneath).
There are several images attached of the front/back/head/base to give deminsions of the piece.
Also attached, is a close-up image of wood (in hopes that the pitting/sanding pattern in the wood itself may provide futher clue as to the authenticity/origin of the item).
Futhermore, there are a few minor cracks (you can see one in the close-up of the arm/wood photo) which may affect the value, but may also give clues as to the age of the piece?
Any pointers/information on how to tell if this piece is real/reproduction and/or what it's value is in either case would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Re: Possible Antique - 19th Century, Mandalay, Bhumisparsha...
I am a dealer in S-E-Asian antiquities. This is definitely not an antque, but a copy/reproduction of a Mandalay Buddha (Burma-Myanmar tody). Therefore, very little value other than decorative; probably around $ 100 -150.-- if you are lucky. The patina is a big indicator of it's age.
