This piece has the anchor emblem known as the trademark of New Haven Silver Plating Co on the center bottom, with the words "New Haven Silver Plate Co. Triple" and the number "4" in a circle around the anchor trademark. According to various internet sources, New Haven Silver Plate Company was established in Lyons, NY and was purchased by Manhattan Silver Plate Company in 1891, which later became a part of International Silver in 1898. The piece is very ornate and the top part of the lid (the part you would use to lift the lid) is intricately carved (?) with flowers and perhaps scrolling ribbons. The handles are also ornately decorated with flowers and attach to the bottom piece at three points per handle. The four individual parts of this piece include the lid, an internal tray/plate with a center hole, the base, and a small silver butter knife that fits into holders on the base piece.Â
My questions are:
1) How old is this piece?
2) Is it relatively rare or fairly common?
3) What is the approximate value?
4) Are there any specific websites where I can learn more about this piece and other antique silver pieces?
