I have received a beautiful silver and cut glass flask, and through my research I have found it was made by Gebruder Kuhr Schwabisch Gmund (based on the markings on the silver). Â The flask itself is glass with the top portion looking like cut glass and the bottom smooth glass. Â A silver 'cup' slides onto the bottom to just below the cut glass. Â This cup has a adornment that looks like it was meant to add an ingraving, maybe someone's initials. Â It is an oval adornment with a bow surrounding it. Â The lid is also silver and is connected to the bottle. Â It twists and opens, but does not detach from the bottle. Inside the lid itself, looks to be a cork or cork-like insert - I imagine this would be used to seal the bottle to prevent leaking.
The piece is not in the best shape, the silver lid is dented and there is one chip in the cut glass at the edge and possibly a repaired chip on a second corner. The silver is very tarnished and it was well used, but still a pretty and interesting piece.
I have attached photo's of the markings, the front of the bottle and a close up of the cut glass pattern. Â Any information on the time period of this flask and possible value would be great. Â This is a gift for a sentimental bar loving guy - who would love any details you can provide.
Thank you!
Re: German Antique Silver & Cut Glass Flask
Based on the marking it post dates 1886, we'd retail one like it cleaned up for about $125.00.
