When my Grandmother passed away a few yars ago, my mother inherited this very nice vintage (or at least I think it is) DuMont console. Â I has been sitting in the garage collectind dust so I thought I would find out if it has any value aside from it working and looking...well...vintage. Â My mom says that my uncle bought this for my grandmother brand new somwhwere in Califonis but she does not remember the date and i cant ask my uncle because he passed away two years after my gandmother. Â Ive tried researching the name on the internet but all i get is the history of the company. Â There are no serial number archives where I can look it up and find out when it was manufactured and the components are used in it. Â I also dont want to rip it open fo fear that I might degrade any value that it might have. Â
Ill start with the stereo reciever. It is in great condition aside from some small scuffs from normal wear and tear. Â it has the tuner know which works great and picks up the local stations. Â I get some interference as i dont have an anntena connected to it but it sounds good when you get a strong frequency. Â Im not sure if the 8 track player works as i dont have any to test it with. Â I also dont know if the headphone jack works as i dont have any headphones as I dont have any headphones with a 1/4 inch plug. Â The volume, balance and tone knowbs work great. Â
The record player works great. Â I played a Doors album and it was phenomenal. Â There is something about listening to a record the way it was meant to be played. Â I love the pops and scratches that can be heard in the background. It really gives it the old timey feel. Â The record player has a smaill lever that has stop, start and auto. Â all three of them work. Â When I selsct auto, the record player drops the record, then the needle will move and drop right on to the record at the beginning.Â
Here is a link that shows it working.https://youtu.be/vxPZgP5aZw0
