I got this inkwell (I think it's an inkwell, it could be a candle holder...) from my dad who got it from his dad. Â We've been meaning to get it appraised.
The body of the dragon is some type of horn or bone. Â The head is carved wood, and the feet and end of the tail are metal, possibly brass. Â There is also a brass or metal collar around the neck. (The feet and tail are VERY dusty, I don't know the best way to clean them.) Â I think it used to have a tongue sticking out, but the tip has broken off. Â The eyes are glass. Â Inside the head is a glass well that I can't get out, but it might have come out at one time. Â Â
My dad has always said it's an old inkwell that his dad got from an employer who traveled abroad a lot. Â He doesn't know anything else about it. Â It measures about 10 inches long.
I'm interested to know exactly what it is, how old it is, where it's from, and an insurance value.
Thank you!
