The cabinet is black lacquer. There is gold, looks like hand painted edging all around the outside of the cabinet on top, front and sides. The mother of pearl is in-layed along the edge of the cabinet on the front but not the top or the sides. Neither the gold nor the in-lay is perfect there are imperfections in both.
The carvings are all cold to the touch all the time. The carvings are coral, green, black and white in color. I have just acquired this cabinet from a church sale where there were vendors. The couple said they had obtained this piece 50 years ago in Illinois at an auction. I paid $75.00 for the cabinet.
There is slight damage to the front edge and scratches that just show on the surface on top. There is a spot on the top that is about 4 inches and a 1/4 wide that has the lacquer worn away. The feet of the cabinet have thin brass like coverings that are showing age just like the pulls are in the front. The pulls appear to be brass like. Not sure if they are brass.
There is a tag sticker on the back that says Made in China. This tag makes me think it is a new piece. The interior of the cabinet is pristine.
Any ideas on this cabinet would be helpful.
