We found this chair in the back corner of an antique shop in Indiana and couldn't leave without it. I am hoping to date it and find a possible place and/or country of manufacture. I apologize for the low quality photos. I have not been able to locate any markings. I believe it to be a piece from a dining or parlor set but i have no idea on its age.
There are no visible screws or hardware holding it together, however it is solid as a rock. The wood is smooth with only a few very minor blemishes and some patina on the arms. I removed the all-metal casters from the front legs as one was broken and I did not want it to scratch the floor. They were well worn and slightly rusted.Â
The seat has been braced and reinforced underneath at some point. But the hardware used for that looks many decades old itself. Â I assume any markings or tags would be under this added bracing but I am weary about taking it apart. The black leather on the seat is worn and faded from years of sliding in and out of the chair. The rope inside the edge of the leather cushion appears to be a twine-like material, visible in a worn out spot on the chairs edge. I am not postiive but I think the seat cushion has been redone, albeit years ago, and the back portion in my opinion appears original. All the fabric/leather is tacked in. The chair weighs roughly 30-35 lbs.
Please, if you have any information on this piece, feel free to share! I MUST know more about it!

Re: Antique Wooden Armchair - Lions or Griffins - Need info!
Your armchair is in the Empire Revival style which was popular from about 1890-1910, basically reproductions of genuine American Empire pieces made 1815-30. Demand for furniture in this style is extremely modest currently, even in very good condition we find it hard to sell comparable chairs for over $225.00
