Long Description
My inlaws brought back this chest from Japan in the mid-1960s. It is in need of some repair, but still very beautiful.
What I know about it is:
This 2-Section Kannon Biraki (Double Opening Door) Tansu (Chest of Drawers).  Also known as a soldier's campaign chest.  It's age is Edo Period, pre 1850s. It has it's original dark reddish brown lacquer finish that helped to preserve the wood. Â
